* The Jaguars are doing the right thing.
Now that Johnathan Cyprien and Dwayne Gratz are signed and ready to start from day one, the focus shifts to the signing of the team’s first round draft pick, tackle Luke Joeckel.
The team does not want a situation like last season where Justin Blackmon was the final first rounder to sign his name to a contract.
Blackmon held out of camp, came in late and although looked great in preseason, he was sluggish the first half of the NFL season. Missing time from camp and with teammates can do that to a player.
Joeckel has been a solid players so far and is penciled in as the starting right tackle for this team. A holdout of any kind could hinder his progress and hurt the Jaguars.
The team as a whole gave up 50 sacks last season. Multiple lineups and injuries did not help keep Blaine Gabbert or Chad Henne upright during the season.
* I like the idea of new renovations to EverBank Field, but what I like about it more than anything is that Shad Khan is taking the bull by the horns.
In a story written by John Oehser of Jaguars.com, the new scoreboards will be state-of-the-art, over the top, world-class and unique.
Not only will the Jaguars benefit from this, but the Gator Bowl will certainly benefit as will the city’s Sports and Entertainment Council in trying to bring other world-wide events to the First Coast.
In other words, the Jaguars are giving the city of Jacksonville a huge boost.
* I also like the idea of Desmond Bishop playing here in Jacksonville. The former Green Bay Packers running back was cut earlier this week and has been said to have received plenty of attention from a handful of teams, including the Jaguars.
The reason for liking this move, should it happen is there is another player who is from a winning program that comes to Florida. Winning is something that you cannot teach. The attitude Bishop could bring with him to the Jaguars could be as solid and important as Marcus Trufant’s signing early this offseason.
