LAMM AT LARGE: Khan can’t miss on this coach hire

todayJanuary 12, 2022

Background

Some men are leaders, most are not.

As Jaguars Owner Shad Khan and his son, Tony, search for a new coach, they need to be looking at leaders. Identify those who when they speak, others listen; when they march, others follow. Age, race, religion and country of origin are immaterial.

Leaders say what they mean and nothing more. They treat their followers with equality, consistency and passion.

All of the men you’ve heard mentioned for the Jaguars job know football, the X’s and O’s. Sure, some may be a little more creative on the offensive or defensive side but the differences are small. Leaders aren’t afraid to hire people smarter than they are. They believe in surrounding themselves with talent and letting their talent flow to their players. Leaders are always grooming more leaders.

I don’t know who out there fulfills these leadership skills, but if the Jaguars are to dig themselves out of a decade-long quagmire, Khan needs to get this hire right.
