No one would argue Steph Curry’s status as a star player But there’s great debate whether or not he belongs among the all-time greats.
I think he is, maybe the best long-range shooter ever, but I understand why others don’t.
There are no monster dunks. There’s no showy tactics calling attention to himself. Sure, there’s a little wiggle after a big basket; holding up three fingers after an important 3-pointer; but no flashy look-at-me antics
.
Even after a poor shooting game like he had in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Celtics, Curry’s presence was felt. He played excellent defense and got his teammates open for good looks. He’s an underrated defender, passer and ball-handler because he’s so smooth.
Shamelessly, it doesn’t help Curry’s reputation that he appears to be a great guy. A family man. He avoids controversy.
Being the greatest 3-pointer shooter is great, but other great long-range bombers include Ray Allen, Steve Kerr, Hubert Davis, brother Seth and a handful of others. Only Allen is a Hall of Famer-in-waiting.
Curry has something the bombers don’t: an all around great game. And you can’t forget those 3 rings. soon to be 4 if the Warriors finish off the Celtics.
Is he top 10 all-time? He’s damn close, no debate in my mind.
