LAMM AT LARGE: Watch Out For The Zags

todayFebruary 22, 2022

Background
With college basketball’s postseason less than a month away, what once appeared to be  a wide open race for the title now looks like its Gonzaga’s to lose.
Gonzaga is a newby as a national power compared with such blue bloods as Kentucky, Duke and Kansas, but the Zags are the betting favorite. Since early season losses — one in late November, the other in early December — they have dominated with the best two-man big combo, veteran leadership in senior point guard Andrew Nembhard (a Gator transfer) and a pair of super freshmen coming off the bench.
Junior Drew Timme, 6-10, likely will be the college player of the year, but the stud of the group is 7-foot freshman Chet Holmgren.
Holmgren is as skinny as a straw and looks like he’s 12 years old. But he rebounds, blocks shots and runs the floor, handles the ball and shoots like a guard.
And he’s getting better. He’ll be the must-watch player of March Madness.
The Zags, in short, look like one of those national championship Kentucky teams.
