If the Jaguars lose their season opener Sunday at Washington, don’t go and burn your Jaguars gear. Don’t go stomping around muttering how you’ll never go to or watch another Jaguars game.
This Jaguars team IS an improvement over last season.
It starts with better leadership and coaching. Comparing Doug Pederson to Urban Meyer is like comparing a thoroughbred to a donkey. Win or lose, at least Pederson knows what he’s doing.
There are lots of young players who may be pretty good. If Trevor Lawrence makes the improvement most potentially good-to-great quarterbacks make in their second season, that’s worth a few victories.
A healthy Travis Etienne could make a big difference. The offensive line and defensive secondary seem improvement. They are better at tight end. They potentially have an above-average pass rush.
It may take awhile for everything to click, if it ever does, but this is a better team in lots of ways. Finally, after being the NFL laughingstock, I can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
