Then there were 8. And, as usual, the NFL has proved to be unpredictable. Why do you think the sportsbooks get so rich?

 

Why are the young Packers, the Baker Mayfield-led Bucs, and the rebuilding Texans still alive? Anyone heard from the Cowboys this week? What about the Browns and their resurrected quarterback, Joe Flacco?

 

By the time we get to the Super Bowl, we’ll likely see some mix of the 49ers, Lions, Ravens, and Chiefs still standing, but I’m not betting on it.

 

There’s a reason you hear coaches all season talk about getting in the tournament. They know once they’re in, they have a chance to win a ring. They understand why so many games are decided by 1-3 plays. They know occasionally a rookie quarterback such as C.J. Stroud steps in going full speed. They know promising seasons can go south because of an injury.

 

They know there’s no such thing as a sure thing.
