Hold your nose: Projecting Jaguars 53-man roster

By: Hays Carlyon Wow have things changed for the Jaguars. I projected the 53-man roster back in late April. Things looked bleak then. Since then the Jaguars have seen some significant departures: defensive end Yannick Ngakoue (trade), running back Leonard Fournette (cut), defensive end Rodney Gunter (retired), defensive tackle Al Woods (opt out), cornerback Rashaan Melvin (opt out) and defensive end Lerentee McCray (opt out). Tight end Josh Oliver has also been lost for the season with a foot injury. […]

Tanking Jaguars cut RB Leonard Fournette

By: Hays Carlyon Welcome to Jacksonville, Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars have completed the tank. Now, we’ll see if it works. Cutting running back Leonard Fournette on Monday was the final piece in the strategy. Again, tanking isn’t deliberately losing games in the season. I don’t believe the Jaguars will do that. Coach Doug Marrone will still play his best players and the players will try their best. There just aren’t that many good players. Tanking is the personnel decisions made […]

Shad Khan needs to do some soul searching on where Jaguars are headed

By: Hays Carlyon Shad Khan is headed towards another losing season. Trading Pro Bowl defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to Minnesota on Sunday for a second and fifth-round pick, as reported by ESPN, only reinforces that belief. Khan is 40-91 (counting the playoffs) since buying the Jaguars. That’s 51 games under .500. New England owner Robert Kraft is 324-140 (counting playoffs) with the Patriots. He’s 184 games above .500. The Patriots could lose every game for the next 14 seasons and […]

Jaguars scrimmage observations: Mixed bag for Gardner Minshew

By: Hays Carlyon The Jaguars made their season debut at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday, conducting a scrimmage that was a mixed bag of good and bad. No player exemplified that more than starting quarterback Gardner Minshew. The second-year veteran got off an awful start before turning things around to somewhat salvage the day. Minshew was intercepted by middle linebacker Joe Schobert in 7-on-7 work early in the scrimmage. Schobert would’ve returned the pick for a touchdown in a real […]

Report: Jaguars trade CB A.J. Bouye to Denver for pick

By: Hays Carlyon The sensational 2017 Jaguars defense continues to be gutted. ESPN reported the Jaguars have agreed to trade Pro-Bowl cornerback A.J. Bouye to Denver in exchange for a late fourth-round pick. The trade can’t be official until the new league year opens on March 18. The trade gives the Jaguars six picks in the first four rounds and 10 picks overall. Trading Bouye also opens up considerable cap space of around $11 million. That should give the Jaguars […]

Yannick Ngakoue says he’s ready to part ways with the Jaguars

By: Hays Carlyon Jaguars defensive end Yannick Ngakoue has been posting cryptic tweets for months. There was nothing cryptic about Monday morning’s offering. Ngakoue announced his intentions to leave the Jaguars as he approaches free agency on March 18. The Jaguars could apply the franchise tag to Ngakoue, securing his rights for this coming season at roughly $17.1 million. Here is what Ngakoue posted. “The Jaguars are aware I no longer have interest in signing a long-term contract in Jacksonville. […]
