The early signing period in December arrives this week and the Florida Gators have added several big commitments leading up to it.
In the last two weeks alone, Dan Mullen has secured four commitments, all from players who are among the top 350 prospects nationally according to 247sports.com.
Here is a look at the newest Gator commitments for 2020.
Offensive Tackle Joshua Braun
Braun, (6-foot-6, 335 pounds) from Live Oak, is considered to be a top 25 offensive tackle prospect nationally for the 2020 class. Braun was committed to Georgia for over six months, but de-committed from the Bulldogs on December 10, 2019 and committed to Florida the very next day.
Braun is a big commitment for Florida because the Gators are keeping a four-star prospect in state, while at the same time flipping him away from their SEC East rival.
Braun is one of five current offensive line commitments that the Gators have for their 2020 recruiting class.
Defensive Tackle Jalen Lee
Lee, (6-foot-3, 294 pounds) from Watson, LA., is a top 15 player in Louisiana for the 2020 class.
Anytime Florida can go to Louisiana and get a commitment from a player like Lee is a big win for the Gators. Lee was committed to LSU for over five months, but he de-committed from the Tigers on November 21, 2019 and committed to Florida two weeks later.
Lee is one of five defensive linemen currently in Florida’s 2020 recruiting class. All five are considered to be four-star prospects by 247sports.com.
Cornerback Mordecai McDaniel
McDaniel, (6-foot-1, 195 pounds) from Washington DC., is among the top 25 cornerback prospects in the country. McDaniel made big news back on December 6, 2019 when he de-committed from Tennessee. He would commit to Florida exactly one week later.
McDaniel was committed to the Volunteers for over three months before announcing his de-commitment.
McDaniel is a member of a strong defensive back class for Florida in 2020, which features seven commitments at the cornerback or safety positions.
Cornerback Ethan Pouncey
Pouncey, (6-foot-1, 160 pounds) from Winter Park, is considered to be a top 10 cornerback prospect nationally and a top 150 overall talent in the 2020 class. Pouncey was committed to Texas for over four months, but he de-committed from the Longhorns on October 31, 2019 and committed to Florida one month later.
Pouncey is a member of a strong defensive back class for Florida in 2020, which features seven commitments.
One thing to consider when you look at these four latest commitments for Florida’s 2020 class, the Gators have flipped every one of them from another top program.
Florida has taken commitments away from Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and Texas and in doing so has added to a class that is currently among the top 10 in the country.
