todayAugust 4, 2021

Background

The Florida Gators have remained hot on the 2021 recruiting trail. In the past three weeks alone, Florida has added five commitments giving them 23 for the 2021 recruiting cycle.

Here is a look at the five newest commitments.

Wide Receiver Marcus Burke

Burke (6-foot-3, 180 pounds) is a four-star prospect from Jacksonville. He committed on July 20.

Burke was a big commitment for Dan Mullen because he is a premier player from Jacksonville and premier players from Jacksonville have not been going to Florida in recent years. Burke is a top 225 overall prospect nationally and a top 40 wide receiver according to 247sports.com.

Burke is the third wide receiver to commit to Florida’s 2021 class joining Daejon Reynolds (Loganville, GA) and Trevonte Rucker (Ocala) All three wideouts are among the top 40 wide receiver’s in the country.

Safety Donovan McMillon

McMillon (6-foot-2, 193 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Canonsburg, PA. He committed on July 18.

McMillon is a big, physical safety who is considered to be among the top 25 safety prospects in the country. McMillon received offers from both Georgia and Wisconsin in the previous month before committing to Florida. McMillon is the second true safety to commit to Florida’s 2021 class joining three-star Dakota Mitchell (Winter Park)

Center Jake Slaughter

Slaughter (6-foot-4, 300 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Ocala. He committed on July 24.

Slaughter’s was a commitment that helped Florida’s class and hurt rival Florida State’s. Slaughter was committed to the Seminoles for over four months before decommitting from FSU and committing to Florida on the same day.

Slaughter, who is among the top 10 center prospects in the country according to 247sports.com, is the fourth offensive lineman to commit to Florida’s 2021 class.

Tight End/Long Snapper Rocco Underwood

Underwood (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Lake Mary. He committed on July 24.

Underwood is a tight end in theory, but he should make the most impact at Florida as a long snapper. He is one of the best high school long snappers in the country and that should be his primary focus at Florida. Underwood also had offers from Alabama and Arkansas.

Defensive Tackle Desmond Watson

Watson (6-foot-5, 350 pounds) is a three-star prospect from Seffner. He committed on July 30.

Watson was a big commitment for Florida for two main reasons. Frist, Watson is a big man. At 350 pounds, he could potentially be a force in the middle of the Gators defensive line in years to come. Secondly, Watson, is the second true defensive tackle to commit to Florida joining three-star Christopher Thomas (Fort Myers). Defensive tackle was a position of need in the Florida’s 2021 class.
