The Jacksonville Jaguars take on the Houston Texans at 1:00 p.m. EST on Sunday at NRG Stadium.

First quarter
Jacksonville got the ball first and began with two quick passes to Christian Kirk before the drive stalled out near midfield. Logan Cooke booted it 45 yards to the opposing 10-yard line, where Steven Sims muffed a fair catch — Daniel Thomas jumped on the ball at the 2-yard line to give the Jaguars a new set of downs! On 1st-and-goal, Trevor Lawrence completed a play action pass to Brian Thomas Jr. for the first score of the game.

Houston responded with an efficient 9-play, 70-yard drive highlighted by three first downs via Nico Collins and punctuated with a rushing touchdown on a trick play by Stefon Diggs.

Lawrence kick started the Jaguars’ next possession with a 3rd down completion to Kirk for 14 yards, then Tank Bigsby scampered for 22 yards along the right sideline. Brenton Strange pitched in with an 11-yard reception before the fun ended when Ezra Cleveland committed a false start. Lawrence missed a wide open Thomas Jr., who dusted his man on a double move, and Jacksonville had to settle for a 41-yard field goal by Cam Little.

Injury update: Travis Etienne (shoulder) is questionable to return.
C.J. Stroud found Diggs for a 28 yard hookup to start Houston’s next drive, but Jacksonville was able to force a punt after three more plays. Etienne returned to the game but the Jaguars went three-and-out after Parker Washington couldn’t separate on third down.
Second quarter
Stroud led the Texans down the field on a 12-play, 74 yard drive capped with a 3-yard score from Collins.
Injury update: Laremy Tunsil (ankle) is questionable to return.

The Jaguars got going with a 16-yard pass to Thomas Jr. and a 10-yard screen to Etienne before stalling out at Houston’s 34-yard line. Cam Little kicked.a 52-yard field goal to tighten the score.

With just over two minutes left in the first half, Stroud led Houston to another scoring drive by evading Jacksonville’s pass rush and finding various players downfield. Ka’imi Fairbairn nailed a 30-yard field goal to end the half.

Third quarter
Injury update: Laremy Tunsil (ankle) has returned.
Jacksonville started the second half hot after forcing a three-and-out and getting a 20-yard pickup from Kirk. But then Lawrence missed two throws, Thomas Jr. had an unsportmanlike pentalty and Luke Farrell dropped a pass, leading Cooke to punt back to Houston. Fortunately, the Jaguars forced another three and-out thanks to two pass breakups by Montaric “Buster” Brown.
The next drive began with a 12-yard rush by Etienne and featured a beautiful go ball down the left sideline from Lawrence to Thomas Jr. for 32 yards. Four plays later, Lawrence found Kirk for a touchdown to take the lead!

Stroud connected with Collins for 11 yards before the Jaguars forced yet another punt. Houston ran 10 offensive plays for 24 yards in the third quarter.
Fourth quarter
Jacksonville got into the red zone quickly thanks to a 58-yard rush by Bigsby, but got stood up at the goal line four downs in a row.
Josh Hines-Allen (concussion) questionable to return.
Houston took over on its own 1-yard line and drove across midfield. Thankfully, an offensive holding penalty and Roy Robertson-Harris sack forced the Texans out of field goal position. Today is the best that the Jaguars defense has played so far under Ryan Nielsen.
The Jaguars got one first down thanks to Thomas Jr. but had to punt back to the Texans after burning about three minutes of game clock. Houston once again hurt itself with an offensive penalty that forced them to punt back to Jacksonville. The good guys went three-and-out, and the bad guys drove 69 yards in 9 plays and scored a 1-yard touchdown with 18 seconds left to win the game.
