Fred Taylor

Background

As a Florida native, there’s no doubt Fred Taylor has lived up to the Floridian dream. The Jaguars legend and “Gator Great” was a running back for the Florida Gators under the Spurrier regime from 1994-1997, then started his NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the 9th overall pick in the 1998 draft. At the University of Florida, Fred finished at #4 in school history with 3,075 yards and 31 touchdowns, earning him first-team All-SEC and Associated Press third-team All-American honors as a senior, and was a strong asset in helping the team win the College Football National Championship in 1996. With the Jaguars, Fred kicked off his rookie season in 1998 starting 12 of 15 games. After 11 seasons in Jacksonville, he joined the New England Patriots for two seasons but wanted to retire a Jaguar. In 2011, Fred signed a one-day contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars to formally retire with the team. At the end of his career, he totaled 11,695 rushing yards. He was the second player inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars, and holds the league record for longest touchdown run at 90 yards. Fred is a good friend of 1010XL and joins Dan Hicken and Jeff Prosser on “The Drill” for his segment “Monday Morning Running Back.”
