Urban Meyer’s wallowing Jaguars offense suffered a brutal setback on Tuesday.

ESPN and NFL Network both reported that rookie running back Travis Etienne will likely miss the entire season after suffering a Lisfranc foot injury in Monday night’s loss to New Orleans.

The Jaguars selected Etienne in the first round with the 25th-overall pick. Meyer believed Etienne could offer the offense dynamic playmaking both as a runner and as a receiver.

Etienne ran for 4,952 yards and 70 touchdowns at Clemson, while catching 102 passes for 1,155 yards and eight scores.

The Jaguars ground game will rely on James Robinson and Carlos Hyde.

The pass-catching option Etienne offered can’t be solved in-house. That portion of the plan is over unless the Jaguars find a suitable replacement. No one will have the potential Etienne offered.

This is a stunning setback for Meyer with the regular-season opener approaching Sept. 12 at Houston.A slow offense at the skill positions just got glacial.

There was little improvement after a dismal opening loss to Cleveland to start the preseason. But I can’t panic. I can’t read too much into it. Because this was not an accurate representation of the offense […]
