1010XL Draft Guide: Weekly roundtable #2

todayFebruary 16, 2024

Background

Welcome to the latest edition of our 2024 NFL Draft weekly roundtable! All the football heads at 1010XL/92.5 FM have gathered to preview the upcoming draft in April.

Today’s question: Who is a late-round prospect you’ve already had your eye on that would fit well in Jacksonville?

Dave Campo: Sedrick Van Pran-Granger from Georgia. Three-year SEC starter who could compete with Luke Fortner in training camp.

Hays Carlyon: FSU WR/TE Johnny Wilson: Need a big target and the 6-foot-7 Wilson should be available on Day 3.

Mike Dempsey: Daequan Hardy, CB, Penn State and/or Luke McCaffrey, WR, Rice.

Ryan “Hacker” Green: Give me Mason McCormick from South Dakota State. One of the best players at the FCS level… all around offensive lineman that could play both guard positions, which is certainly what the Jaguars need.

Matt Hayes: G Isaiah Adams, Illinois: Strong, tough and mean. A big guy (6-5, 320) who played a lot of ball at Illinois (started 25 games) and hasn’t reached his ceiling.

Gus Logue: UCF WR Javon Baker: Baker wasn’t on my radar until the Senior Bowl, where he measured in at 6’1″, 208 lbs and showed off impressive routes and hops. He doesn’t have elite deep speed and must work on beating press coverage, but Baker is a well-rounded wideout who could supplant Zay Jones as a fourth-round pick.

Mia O’Brien: Jalen Coker, WR, Holy Cross: Yes, he went to Holy Cross. But he led FCS in touchdowns (23). He had the eighth most contested catches on 20+ yards in NCAA. 6’1’’, 218 lb frame (and how he contorts it in the red-zone + high-points the football) were showcased at the Shrine Bowl. Invited to the NFL Combine, too. Regarded by many as “the next Puka Nacua.”

Tony Smith: Isaiah Adams – OL – Illinois: Best chance to start is likely as a guard. Could develop into a back up at four positions along the line (started 10 games at right tackle and 2 at left guard last year) similar to what they have had for several years now with Tyler Shatley.
