Chris Doering

Background

“Gator Great” and Gainesville native Chris Doering has left a flaming impression on the collegiate and professional football worlds and in sports media. In 1991, Chris joined the University of Florida football team as a walk-on under Steve Spurrier. After spending his first season as redshirt, he received a scholarship in 1992 and was a large contributor to the team’s success in winning three straight SEC Championships in 1993, 1994, and 1995. He was inducted into the University of Florida Hall of Fame as a “Gator Great” in 2006. In 1996, Chris was drafted to the Jacksonville Jaguars as a sixth round pick. Shortly after, he went to the Indianapolis Colts. He was also a part of the Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins under his former coach Steve Spurrier, and retired with the Pittsburgh Steelers. After the NFL, Chris was a co-host for ESPN Radio’s “The Sports Fix” and occasionally did some sideline reporting for Westwood One. In 2015, he joined ESPN as a studio analyst and eventually bled into the SEC Network, where he did programming work, including the signature show “SEC Now”. Chris is a close friend of the station and visits Dan Hicken and Jeff Prosser weekly on “The Drill” to talk all things Gator football.
