It should have been the Jaguars in the first round

Last Saturday it should have been the Jaguars in the first round of the NFL playoffs, not the Texans.

It should have been third-year starting QB Trevor Lawrence, a first overall draft pick, throwing three TD passes, not C.J. Stroud, this year’s No. 3 overall pick.

It should have veteran coach Doug Pederson making the right moves, not a rookie head coach in DeMeco Ryans.

This was the year the Jaguars were supposed to be the rising young franchise, not the Texans.

The Jaguars’ rebuild ran into the Urban Meyer debacle in ’21 and then seemed to get on track.

But the Jaguars’ excellent start (8-3) crashed in December. The Texans used a great draft to simply keep getting better.

And, now, it’s the Texans moving into the second round while the Jaguars are planning their vacations.
