It’s about time the Jaguars put Tom Coughlin in the Ring of Honor

Background

It’s about time the Jaguars decided to put their original head coach Tom Coughlin in the Ring of Honor. He should have been the first, not the seventh to grace the inside wall of The Bank.

Coughlin literally built the franchise from the ground up, starting by working out of a mobile home.

I don’t object to any of the people in the Ring. Well, maybe the wife of the original owner. OK, I know Delores was listed as co-owner with hubby Wayne but . . . I can’t disagree with Tony Boselli, Mark Brunell, Jimmy Smith and Fred Taylor.

I know every worthy candidate can’t be included but a couple of long-shot candidates are placekicker Josh Scobee, who seldom missed a kick for a decade, and center Brad Meester, the longest-tenured Jaguar who never missed a start for 14 seasons.

The next Jaguar to be honored will probably be Maurice-Jones Drew or Jacksonsonville’s own Rashean Mathis, who’d be the first defensive player included in the Ring.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence seemingly was feeling the pressure from his first drop back in what was easily one of the worst performances […]
