LAMM AT LARGE: 2022 A Season of Rebirth

todayJanuary 25, 2023

Background
In 25 years, when a thirty-something Jaguars fan is flipping through the team’s record book, she’ll notice the 2022 team record, 10-9, because . . . well, because there are too many games.
How’d a 10-9 team make the playoffs, particular when she sees how awful the team was the year before, 3-14? Could it be a typo, she’ll wonder?
No, but the final record doesn’t come close to telling the story of the ’22 Jaguars. Nor does the fact they won their last 5 games..
The numbers don’t tell the story of Rayshawn Jenkins’ two amazing plays. There was the INT returned for a TD in overtime to beat Dallas: there was his forced fumble and Josh Allen’s scoop and score to beat the Titans.
Placekicker Riley Patterson was Mr. Clutch, his 48-yarder with no time left forced OT vs. the Cowboys.
The final record doesn’t tell you the Jaguars rallied six times to win regular season games or their historic comeback from 27-0 down to beat the Chargers in the playoffs.
The record doesn’t tell you the 2022 season was the rebirth of the Jaguars.
