LAMM AT LARGE: Anyone who follows college football knows it’s not only how talented your team is, but who you play.

Background

Anyone who follows college football knows it’s not only how talented your team is, but who you play.

No sport has a more uneven schedule than college football. Some years it’s the luck of the draw in league play. In the SEC, Georgia, for example, goes for its third straight national title without playing Alabama and LSU during the regular season.

Each school controls its non-conference schedule. Most have a long-time, non-conference rival: Georgia has Georgia Tech; FSU and Florida have each other.

I am making a point: Shame on the Bulldogs. their non-conference schedule this fall is Tennessee-Martin, Ball State, UAB and Tech. Pathetic.

The Gators have Utah in addition to FSU. They have “gimme” games with McNeese State and UNC-Charlotte — if it’s possible for UF to have an easy game.

Kudos to FSU. In addition to Florida, the Seminoles play LSU, North Alabama (10-3) and Southern Miss. Not great but better than the other two.
