LAMM AT LARGE: Could Florida Georgia Be on The Move?

todayOctober 26, 2022

Background
As usual, there’s talk of moving the Georgia-Florida game out of Jacksonville. Most of the chatter is coming out of Athens.
It’s really no different than it’s been in years, but that doesn’t mean it’s not serious.
Georgia considers it a road game played on Florida soil, a mere 90 miles from Gainesville. The scheduling is now more complicated with Texas and Oklahoma joining the SEC in a year or two.
Jacksonville officials are, as they should, taking the threat seriously. The Gator Bowl Association, which runs the game, is almost out of what they can pay the schools.
But there are issues other than money. First and foremost, the schools split the 80,000-plus tickets evenly. Move the game to the campuses, and, depending the year, a lot of Bullgators and big Dawg donors will be mad as hell. Many of those deep-pocketed Dawg live closer to Jacksonville than Athens.
It’s a wonderful event and great for our city. I hope there’s no change in the near future.

Georgia fans are calling it the largest Appetizer Party, their anticipation of the Bulldogs eating Gator meat all afternoon. Any Gator fan will tell […]
