LAMM AT LARGE: Deserving or not, Cincinnati is getting their shot

todayDecember 7, 2021

Background

Cincinnati isn’t one of the four best college football teams in the nation — and we all know it.

But that doesn’t mean the Bearcats shouldn’t be in the four-team playoff. In such an imperfect system of choosing the four playoff teams, Cincinnati checked every box. They took on Power 5 opponents, they won their conference championship, and they’re the only undefeated team in major college football.

As long as the schools — the NCAA has nothing to do with the playoff — use an element of a beauty contest to pick the playoff teams, there’ll always be a debate of some kind.

Is Ohio State better than what heretofore was thought of as an in-state pest?

What about Baylor, the Big 12 champion?

Who’d you pick if your life depended on it: Texas A&M or Cincinnati?

None of it matters. The Bearcats are in. Go ‘Cats.

I’m not going to focus on the fact the Jaguars remain the only […]

LAMM AT LARGE: PGA pros may be TOO good

The PGA Tour's slogan, "These Guys Are Good", is outdated. It should be "These Guys Are Great". After three tournaments this year the winners are a combined 80 under par. At the same point last year that total was 69; the year before that 51. The courses admittedly are easy […]
