LAMM AT LARGE: Gators should fire Dan Mullen NOW

todayNovember 17, 2021

The Gators should fire Dan Mullen, and do it now.

This isn’t some knee jerk reaction. I’ve seldom called for the firing of coaches. The exceptions are Charley Pell at Florida when it was obvious he had committed dozens of NCAA violations and Jim McElwain when his mental health became an issue.

I never thought Ray Goff was a good hire by Georgia. Defended the Jaguars’ Jack Del Rio. Think Urban Meyer is in over his head.

Patience, believe it or not, has been a strength or weakness, depending on your point of view.

But Mullen needs to go because every sign is pointed down. The Gators are a mess in his 4th year. Firing longtime assistants is the first sign of a crumbling regime. He’s never been a top recruiter of high school talent. He’s 2-9 against last 11 Power 5 opponents.

And worse of all, it appears his team has quit on him.
