LAMM AT LARGE: Henderson just the latest Jags 1st round miss

todaySeptember 29, 2021

Background
When the Jaguars shipped C.J. Henderson, the 9th overall draft pick in 2020, and a 5th round pick to Carolina for a 3rd round pick and a journeyman tight end, it marked another 1st-round draft mistake for the franchise.
That got me to thinking: exactly how bad have the Jaguars drafted since 2000? Concentrating only on top 10 picks, they have had an incredible 16 such picks over the last two decades. They should have laid a foundation for success.
But out of those 16 picks, only John Henderson and Eugene Monroe were solid, above average players. The jury is still out on Josh Allen and Trevor Lawrence.   Byron Leftwich, Reggie Williams, Tyson Alualu and Blake Bortles were average at best.
Derrick Harvey, Luke Joeckel, Justin Blackmon and Blaine Gabbert were true busts. And then there were the malcontents — Jalen Ramsey, Leonard Fournette, Dante Fowler and Henderson.
Could the Jaguars have drafted worse?
