I know I’ve told Jaguars fans to hit the pedal on being overly enthusiastic about the upcoming season. I’ve also preached parity in the NFL.
That said, if the Jaguars don’t whip the Texans by two touchdowns Sunday in Houston, I’ll be disappointed.
As bad as the Jaguars were last year, I think the Texans are worse this season. The ongoing Deshaun Watson mess has created a bad situation. The lost of several top players — think J.J. Watt — has made things worse.
Other than the expansion Bucs in ’76, I can’t think of a team more likely to go winless than this year’s Texans.
Jaguars fans can only hope their team doesn’t think the same way. This being the season opener and the start of the Urban Meyer-Trevor Lawrence era should assure that won’t be the case.
I hate to dangle this carrot in front of Jaguar fans who’ve experienced so much disappointment for a decade — with one exception — but I’ll be surprised if Lawrence doesn’t throw the ball all over the field and the new defensive front doesn’t shutdown the Texans running game.
Remember, now, the Jaguars won their opener last year and then went to pot.
