OK, OK, OK. I cheated.
I’ve ignored my self-imposed boycott of the NBA because of hypocrites such Commissioner Adam Silver and LeBron James. It has slowly been evaporating with the playoffs going on. I’m a sports junkie. What can I say? It’s my job, my life.
I have a love-hate relationship with the NBA. I marvel at the incredible athletes. You’d have been called a nut job back in the day to suggest 7-foot tall men (other than Wilt Chamberlain) could do the athletic things they do today. The range of today’s shooters is mind blowing. The top of the key used to be a long shot. Today half the league tosses in 3s from the logo.
Remember when basketball was a non-contact sport? Now defensive players beat on offensive players like linebackers.
And whatever happened to “palming the ball”? Exactly what is a “Euro-step”? As best as I can tell, it’s when a player drives to the basket without dribbling the ball . . . as in a 1, a 2, a 3 and shoot.
It’s confusing, but it is sure fun.
The surest way to make an NBA highlight reel is to dunk the ball. The more ferocious the dunk, the better. Have you ever seen Steph Curry dunk a basketball? Me neither.
