Neither Mel Kiper nor Todd McShay of ESPN nor Pete Prisco of CBS Sports nor any of the other NFL draft experts really know what’s going to happen in this week’s three-day draft that starts Thursday.
The same is true for all of the NFL insiders.
I’m not criticizing these people. They work year-round watching players, studying film, and developing contacts. They just have an impossible job. What they do is identify the best players and the team’s greatest needs. The experts might nail the top three picks. That’s a big might. After that, it’s a scrap shoot. Any expert who correctly gets 5-6 picks right in any round has done a good job.
Most of the 32 general managers don’t know who’ll they draft. Well, maybe one does. They all know who they want, but will that player still be on the board when their time comes?
So, call some friends, get some snacks, and enjoy the long process.
All of your teams’ draft picks are important. Remember the 49ers selecting Brock Purdy with the last pick on the last day last year?
