Background

If Aaron Rodgers, whose Hall of Fame career is still going strong, becomes a free agent, you’d think teams would be beating down the door of the Packers quarterback.

And, yes, there will be multiple suitors, but not as many as you might think. Have you noticed how quarterback-rich the NFL is these days?

Most people agree quarterback is the most difficult position to play in all sports, and forever there’s been a shortage of quality QBs, but not these days. By my count, there are 16 quality QBs and another six who are above average. Then there are four “youngsters” — including the Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence — who are still developing.

That leaves six teams needing a quarterback. Has the position ever been this strong in the NFL?
