LAMM AT LARGE: Texans & Jets not layups for these Jaguars

todayDecember 16, 2021

Background

A friend said to me this week, “Playing the Texans and Jets the next two weeks may be just what the Jaguars need.”

Of course playing the Jaguars (2-11) may be just what the Texans (2-11) and Jets (3-10) need. The miserable threesome are the only AFC teams already eliminated from the playoffs. Between them they are 7-32 and often not competitive.

The Texans already own a victory over the Jaguars, a 37-21 beatdown on opening day that shockingly is one of only three times the Jaguars topped the 20-point mark. All three came in the first six games. Since then the Jaguars and their much bally-wooed rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence have spiraled downhill. Can the Jets’ and Texans’ weak defenses help fix the Jaguars’ awful offense?

One thing is for sure and that’s nothing except draft position will be at stake. If Detroit (1-11-1) cooperates, maybe one of the three AFC bottom-feeders will get the No. 1 pick.

Nah, the Jaguars probably will mess up that, too.
