Football is the ultimate team game, 11 players working in unison to achieve success.
.
But one player — other than the quarterback, of course — can make a huge difference in a league where close games are the norm.
The Jaguars haven’t had that player in years. It may be different this season with RB-WR Travis Etienne healthy.
Etienne has the speed, the quickness and the instincts to be the difference-maker the Jaguars have longed for. He still has to prove it on the field, but he’s enough to give the Jaguars more hope than they’ve had in years.
Throw in Evan Ingram, the most promising tight end the team has had in years, and you’ve got enough promise for excitement.
Etienne is one of those rare players who can score from anywhere on the field. The fact he can play wide receiver as well as running back gives him an edge.
Ingram’ gives quarterback Trevor Lawrence someone who demands respect, particularly in the red zone.
That’s the good news, The rebuilt offensive line still must perform reasonably well. Ditto for the defense, which has a lot of new faces.
But none of it matters if Etienne doesn’t perform at a high level.
