LAMM AT LARGE: The Winter Olympics Ratings Dissapoint

todayFebruary 23, 2022

Background
I’m happy to report the Olympic Games bombed in the TV ratings, down more than 60 percent and nearing an all-time low.
For the record, I wanted the USA to boycott the Games held in China, a nation with a deplorable record of human rights. I find it disgusting  that China was allowed to showcase itself to the world on the backs of our athletes.
Obviously I wasn’t alone in not watching one second of the Games. The final three days, including the Closing Ceremonies, were down  53 percent. In fairness, 9,815,000 watched those days, huge TV numbers by most standards, but far from the nearly 22 million who watched the Games in 2018.
The Winter Games audience in the USA is always far lower the the Summer Games because only a small portion of Americans follow the winter sports, but the low numbers indicate that many people agreed with me. Playing the Games in China speaks loudly to the corruption in the International Olympic Committee.
Thankfully the Games are over. There were reruns on NBC I missed watching.
