The blueprint for rebuilding a once great college football program that’s fallen on hard times is quite simple: hire the right coach.

 

Ah, that’s the problem. finding the right coach. Most of the coaching stars aren’t going anywhere. Finding the right small college coach is a roll of the dice.

 

The list of failures is long. Then there’s Mike Novell, who’s in his fourth season at FSU. The Seminoles are back where they were in the 90s.

 

There’s no magic involved. Norvell was successful at Memphis until getting the call to Tallahassee. He’s found big-time talent at small schools — DE Jared Verse at Albany — as well as Power 5 schools like Michigan State — WR Keon Coleman — and Arizona State — WR Johnnie Wilson.

 

Ten of the Noles’ 15 All-ACC players last season were transfers.
