Now everything seems normal

Background

In a season filled with upsets and a couple of shocking collapses (Jaguars and Eagles), some order was restored to the NFL in the second half of the final game before Super Bowl 58.

The NFC’s top-seeded 49ers put on one of the greatest second-half comebacks in history to end the Lions’ dream season. Now, in the final game of the season, we have the 49ers playing the 3rd-seeded Chiefs and one of the greatest quarterbacks in history, Patrick Mahomes.

A 49ers-Chiefs matchup has CBS executives doing cartwheels. With two marquee teams, including the defending champion Chiefs, the game could again set a record for the size of the TV audience. Could viewership top 150 million?

All season it appeared we might see different teams in the Super Bowl. The 49ers had a three-game losing skid at midseason. The mighty Chiefs never got its offense on track — and still hasn’t — and lost six games.

Now everything seems normal.
