Ryder Cup teams are now set for this year’s matches

todaySeptember 6, 2023

Background

During the fall there are two weekends where football takes a backseat to other sports for me.

One is the Ryder Cup which matches the best American golfers against the best Europeans. The World Series is the other.

We’re a long way from knowing who’ll play in the Fall Classic. But Cup teams are now set for this year’s matches, which will be played in three weeks in Rome. The Americans haven’t won in Europe in 30 years, but this year’s teams look about as even as I can remember.

Both have three rookies. Each has a controversial pick, the USA going with former Cup star Justin Thomas, who’s in a major slump. Ditto for Irishman Shane Lowery. I thought Keenan Bradley should have been on Team USA; and Adrian Meronk on Team Europe. Both have rookie left-handers in veterans Brian Harman and Scotsman Robert MacIntyre.

I’m sure I’ll sneak a peak at the weekend’s football games, but don’t touch my TV remote during the Cup and the Series.
