We often know little about tennis athletes until they’re on the big show stage

todayJuly 6, 2023

Background

I’m not a big pro tennis fan. I used to be lukewarm on the sport, but now I don’t know who’s playing. If I did I couldn’t pronounce or spell their names.

I do prefer the women’s game to the men’s. What little I’ve watched of Wimbledon has been the women. The women’s game offers far more action with longer volleys. The men? It’s mostly about power. Slam bam thank you, man.

Women have made great strides in every sport, none more so than women’s basketball, which is worth watching.

All of our big-time pro sports have become global except for pro football — and it’s trying like hell with more and more games being played in England with others in Germany and Mexico. That means we often know little about these tennis athletes until they’re on the big show stage.

If we did, maybe I will learn their names and how to pronounce and spell them.

The best is LSU's Jaydan Daniels, […]
