We’ve never seen a coaching carousel like this year

We’re used to numerous coaching changes each year in the NFL and big-time college football, but we’ve never seen anything like what’s happening this year.

In a 24-hour period perhaps the greatest coaches in the NFL and big-time college football both departed. Bill Belichick was shoved out the door by the Patriots insisting he still wants to coach at 71. Nick Saban, also 71, kissed Alabama goodbye because his energy was gone.

In the same 24-hour period another Hall of Fame-bound coach, Pete Carroll, 72, was booted out of the door in Seattle.

More changes have been made or are coming. I think many of the teams making changes will live to regret them. A lack of patience is now the trend.

Certainly the departing legends will be difficult to replace, but somewhere out there there are future legends who are just getting started.
