Which NFL Teams Are Most Likely to Reach the Super Bowl This Season?
The 2024 NFL season is fast approaching its conclusion. Teams are starting to understand whether they have done enough to contest in the postseason this winter and compete for the Super Bowl.
Ahead of Week 17 of the 18 regular season weeks, eight teams already know that they will be involved in the playoffs in some capacity.
Which NFL teams will be in the playoffs in January 2025?
The eight teams that form the playoffs thus far include:
Buffalo Bills (12-3) – have won the AFC East
Kansas City Chiefs (14-1) – have won the AFC West
Pittsburgh Steelers (10-5) – have clinched a Wild Card spot from the AFC North
Houston Texans (9-6) – clinched the AFC South title
Baltimore Ravens (10-5) – Have clinched a Wild Card spot in the AFC North
Philadelphia Eagles (12-3) – have a Wild Card spot in the NFC East
Detroit Lions (13-2) – have a Wild Card spot in the NFC North
Minnesota Vikings (13-2) – have a Wild Card spot in the NFC North
As can be seen, there are divisions that are yet to have a team obtain their place in the postseason. Some have managed to secure a Wild Card spot as a minimum, while some simply don’t know what their future holds just yet.
The AFC North is still up for grabs with the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens fighting hard for the title, while the NFC still has many unanswered questions. The Eagles look certain to win the East, while the West and South remain up for grabs. The North is tight, with both the Lions and Vikings having an equally good chance of advancing.
Which teams are most likely to reach the Super Bowl this February?
While there is still a lot of NFL football to be played, that hasn’t stopped the speculation about which teams could be facing off against each other in the premier game.
Fans and bookies have been making their predictions, with the latest Super Bowl odds being a great way to see how the vast majority of opinions being shared are going.
The Kansas City Chiefs were many people’s favorites to win the entire thing, but an injury to Patrick Mahomes could potentially cost them their place if it turns out to be severe. As a result, they have fallen as they are valued at 5.25.
The Buffalo Bills are considered the favorites for the AFC, with their odds at 5.75. Josh Allen continues to play at a level that would make him a favorable option in the MVP race.
In the NFC, the Philadelphia Eagles look set to return to the Super Bowl after being beaten by the Chiefs two years ago. Jalen Hurts and Saqoun Barkley have formed a formidable pair on offense, which is why the team is being valued at 7.00 and just behind the Bills to win the entire thing.
Outside of them, it would seem the bookmakers expect a rematch of the incredible matchup between the Bills and the Detroit Lions that we had witnessed just a week ago, in which 90 points were put up in a 48-42 win by the Bills. The Lions are priced at 5.50 to win the Super Bowl.
What’s the most likely Super Bowl showdown this season?
As mentioned, there is still a lot of football to be played so far this season, with the postseason often able to produce its own number of surprises along the way.
However, that hasn’t stopped fans from making their own predictions about who they believe the two teams will be at this year’s Super Bowl.
Many believe the Kansas City Chiefs will still find a way to win and get there for the fifth time in six years, having won the last two editions that included a win against the San Francisco 49ers last year. Although Mahomes’ injury is questionable, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he still managed to get to his feet and propel his team to the title once again. They’ll need him if they are to power past the likes of the Bills, Steelers and potentially the Ravens.
From the perspective of the NFC, this is where things get a little tricker. The Eagles look like the team to beat in the conference, but so do the Lions and Vikings.
One thing is certain: Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans on February 9 will still be an incredible spectacle regardless of which two teams are playing and everyone will be excited to see it take place when it does.
