Do you know the cliche about fans needing a scorecard to tell who their players are? That’s never been truer than it is now in high-time college football.

 

That’s because of the transfer portal and, to some degree, the NIL (name, image, likeness). Many Power 5 programs are literally turning over nearly half their rosters from one season to the next. Often half the newcomers are transfers.

 

Take the Gators, for example. Coach Billy Napier has added 13 transfers in addition to new recruits. Other than those who’ve used up their eligibility, 26 players off last year’s team have left for what they hope are greener pastures. Even in his 4th season at FSU, Coach Mike Norvell lost 22 players and brought in 12 through the portal.

 

This is routine. In some cases, teams are literally stealing transfers with the NIL or, frankly, cheating. NCAA investigators are chasing their tails looking for rules-breakers.

 

The best way to stop the madness is to recruit and develop. Georgia brought in four transfers; Alabama five,
