LAMM AT LARGE: An Unfamiliar Win Last Sunday

todaySeptember 21, 2022

Background
You may not have recognized what you saw last Sunday at TIAA Bank Field. The team wearing and white-and-black uniforms with the Jaguars logo on it’s helmets hadn’t been seen in years.
QB Trevor Lawrence was efficient, not great. Ditto for every offensive position unit.
The defense was great. Five take-aways, five sacks and shutting down the NFL’s best running back.
Oh yeah, only three penalties for 19 yards.
Where in the name of Tony Boselli has this team been? And how did it pop up now?
It’s called coaching.
That involves preparation, game-planning, motivation and judging talent — something the Jaguars lacked, save for the 2017 apparition, since Tom Coughlin was run out of town the first time.
There’s still a matter of upgrading talent throughout the roster, but properly managing this group is capable of what we saw when the Jaguars beat the Colts 24-0.
It’s much too early to mail the coach-the-year trophy to Doug Pederson, but it is nice to know the Jaguars have a coach who knows what he’s doing.

After being pushed around by Kentucky in the Swamp, a late bad snap in the shotgun formation and a dropped hold on a chip-shot, "gimme: field goal allowed them to escape losing to 24-point underdog […]
