LAMM AT LARGE: Future bleak for Meyer in Jacksonville

todayOctober 14, 2021

I hate to pile on but Urban Meyer does look lost, confused and miserable. He doesn’t handle losing very well.

He showed that after his Florida Gators were blown out by Alabama in the ’09 SEC Championship Game. He suffered a major anxiety attack later that night that all but ended his days in Gainesville.

He had to know taking the Jaguars job was a risk. Not only were the Jaguars the worse team in the NFL, but it was his first NFL job. Many like me thought he might be in over his head.

During an 0-5 start, Meyer has made strange, confusing comments. He has made head-scratching in-game decisions. He has messed up off the field.

It’s difficult seeing this situation ending well.

In the world we live in, there is zero tolerance for such remarks. No matter how old they are; no matter how vague they may be. People have lost their jobs and social standing for comments made decades ago. It doesn't matter how someone has lived his life since. […]

Apologies are demanded. Butt-kissing is encouraged. The Celtics' Enes Kanter recently spoke out against China for treatment of Tibetans. That prompted […]

LAMM AT LARGE: Gators are a badly coached team

I've never claimed to be a coach or as smart as the men who coach for a living. But I've been around long enough to know good and bad coaching when I see it. The Gators have been a badly coached team this season, losing two games when I thought […]
