LAMM AT LARGE: Gators are a badly coached team

todayOctober 20, 2021

Background

I’ve never claimed to be a coach or as smart as the men who coach for a living. But I’ve been around long enough to know good and bad coaching when I see it.

The Gators have been a badly coached team this season, losing two games when I thought they had superior talent.

There was the rash of penalties that allowed Kentucky to beat Florida. Penalties are usually about discipline and discipline is coaching.

Then there was the atrocious defense against LSU that never made any adjustments. The Wildcats used the same play — left, then right — to literally run the ball down the Gators’ throat.

Dan Mullen is called the Quarterback Whisperer, but he’s been whispering the wrong message this season. Anthony Richardson is clearly better than Emory Jones. Play him.

Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s reputation is a good one, but he’s not showing this year.

Shame, this could have been a special year for the Gators.
