When Hendon Hooker transferred to Tennessee last season, few Volunteers’ fans were singing “Rocky Top”.
Although he had a spectacular season — 31 TDs and only 3 INTs — those outside of Tennessee didn’t include him when the topic turned to a slew of outstanding SEC quarterbacks — Alabama’s Bryce Young. Georgia’s Stetson Bennett, Mississippi State’s Will Rodgers, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Ole Miss’s Matt Corral.
But no one can ignore Hooker now — although NFL scouts are trying.
What’s the problem? He has the size at 6-4, 218 pounds. He can run as well as throw. By all accounts, he reads defenses well and helps little ol’ ladies cross the street.
His problem in the eyes of the NFL scouts is age. He’ll be 25 years old on draft day next April. Shouldn’t that be a plus? Well seasoned in college seems like good thing to me.
Give him 2 seasons to get up to NFL speed. If he can’t keep up, trade him or cut him or put him on the bench as your backup.
Pass on him on it could cost a GM his job.
