How much has Trevor Lawrence improved?
Enough that you could make a case for him being among the top five quarterbacks in the NFL. The sample size is now big enough.
Any list of NFL quarterbacks starts with Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, all in the AFC. Because of an outstanding season, an MVP favorite, you have to include Jalen Hurts as No. 4.
So, who’s No. 5 right now? Not Tom Brady. Not Aaron Rodgers. Not Lamar Jackson. Not Dax Prescott.
Maybe the Chargers’ Justin Herbert. Maybe the Vikings’ Kirk Cousins . . . and Lawrence.
I’m saying if you threw in all the quarterbacks and had a draft based on their current play, Lawrence would go as high as fifth and no lower than sixth.
First year coach Doug Pederson made a few small, but obviously important tweaks in Lawrence’s throwing motion, and out came the man drafted No. 1 overall in ’21 after a wasted rookie season under a clown named Urban Meyer.
Already Lawrence is on the verge of being the best quarterback in Jaguars history. Am I jumping to such a conclusion too quickly? Maybe, but great careers start sometime and I think Lawrence has started his.
