LAMM AT LARGE: Is The Big 3 Gone?

todayJune 2, 2022

Background
Remember the Big 3. If the Gators, Seminoles or Hurricanes weren’t winning national championships, they were playing for them.
Then POOF, the magic was gone. The Big 3 became the Big Mediocre. Meanwhile, Central Florida became UCF and a top 15 program. USF? Not so much.
So where is college in the state now? Still mediocre but showing signs of life. Miami appears to be on the right track. UCF, too. Florida State appears stuck in a quagmire. Florida is an unknown with a new coach. Let’s forget about USF for the time being.
It appears unlikely we’ll ever see the Big 3 again. Too much talent escaping the Sunshine State and finding success. Too many state schools hunting for homegrown talent. UCF has made an impact that didn’t exist during the glory days of the Big 3.
While there is rightly concern at FSU,  a reemergence of Miami and Florida is likely. I don’t UCF is going to vanish.
I hope you enjoyed the days of the Big 3 as much as you should have.
