LAMM AT LARGE: It’s Combine Time

Background
The NFL Scouting Combine turns 37 this week. It started from humble beginnings and quickly grew into a monster event, but even at such a young age it is now on life support.
Teams quickly realized the advantages of having the top draft prospects come to them instead of each team’s top officials traveling to see prospects individually. Cost wise is was a huge savings.
But times have changed and so have the bank accounts of everything NFL.
Many of the top 300 college draft prospects no longer attend the Combine except for physical examines. They consider it to their advantage to be tested on familiar ground.
So unless you’re a team doctor or a draft nut interested in late round picks, the Combine isn’t worth much.
