LAMM AT LARGE: Jaguars should trade #1 pick

todayJanuary 20, 2022

Background

The Jaguars should trade the No. 1 draft pick.

The Jaguars can get a lot more bang for their buck by acquiring more picks because there isn’t that one special player at the top of all the draft boards. This is a draft about numbers and the Jaguars have oh so many needs.

Edge ushers Aidan Hutchinson of Michigan and Kayvon Thibodeaux of Oregon  top just about ever mock draft, and while the Jaguars need an edge rusher, there are at least four more worthy of a first round grade. Jacksonville needs offensive line help and there at six offensive tackle likely to go in the first. Other strong positions are wide receiver and cornerback, both Jaguar needs.

Swapping No. 1 for two 1s latter in the round and getting another 2nd or 3rd-round pick mean strength in numbers.

There are two keys to all of this: Getting a trade partner and making good picks for a change.
