LAMM AT LARGE: LSU Has Quiet The Rebuild Ahead

todayApril 5, 2022

Background
While major college basketball basks in the glow one one of its greatest postseasons, new LSU coach Matt McMahon faces the biggest rebuild in the sport’s history.
When McMahon arrived in Baton Rouge last week, fresh from Murray State, he was greeted by handful of walk-ons. The 13 scholarship Tigers who led LSU to an 8th seed were all gone, two declaring for the NBA draft and the others entering the transfer portal. They  obviously didn’t see much of a future at LSU, which fired Coach Will Wade several weeks ago after the NCAA handed the school a long list of alleged violations. Wade is heard on tape committing several no-nos.
McMahon is bringing three of his Murray State players and looking coast to coast for other players looking for a new start, albeit at a school headed for probation..
Has a coach ever taken a job at a big-time program  with less? No records are kept for such things, but I can tell you in my 60 years of covering sports I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Cops, firefighters, doctors, nurses, teachers, […]
