The National Football League (NFL) is undoubtedly one of the biggest things in American sports. How the teams approach the lineup and strategy plays a significant role in sport bet trends as well. This year is no different.
Let’s take a quick look at the top successful trends in the NFL that will carry over to the 2023 season. And the Super Bowl.
An Offensive Line is Still Big
The 49ers made it to the 2019 Super Bowl in 2019 before losing to the Chiefs. Only 2 months later, the team drafted Trent Williams, a Hall of Fame offensive tackle. For the 2022 season, they also drafted Aaron Banks and Spencer Burford.
The Chiefs are not sitting idle in the meantime. Brett Veach, the general manager of Kansas City Chiefs, managed to get his hands on Joe Thuney. It’s widely believed that the Chiefs now have the strongest blocking in all of the AFC.
This goes to show that NFL teams are investing heavily in offensive tackles, a trend we see continuing in 2023. Needless to say, these players are also the focus of betting sites offering staggering odds for markets that involve them.
The Infamous Playmaking Tight Ends
The trend of drafting relatively large players who run like hell for tight ends seem to be an ongoing theme for many teams. Antonio Gates is perhaps the best example of who conquered the world of football coming from basketball!
Apparently, the offensive coordinators in the NFL concluded that players who are big and can also run fast are the best for deploying in tight ends. They combinedly play the role of an offensive lineman and a wide receiver, making them unparalleled.
Kansas City Chiefs in 2001, Cleveland Browns in 2006, and New Orleans Saints in 2011 have proved this theory.
Rookies Take the Win
You’d generally think that players who can do it all would be a better choice for your football team. But NFL managers, coaches, and coordinators seem to disagree. Players with specialty skills are getting drafted more often. It doesn’t even matter if the player is a complete rookie!
Take Ryans Broyles for an example. This Detroit Lions wide receiver whose sole purpose of being in the team is to exploit the defenses. He’s known for doing this in his college football career and the coach of the Lions saw an opportunity to use it.
You have to be careful when you start talking about the greatest this or the worse that. So here I go tiptoeing across eggshells about the greatest individual comeback in all sports. I offer golfer Lucas Glover as No. 1 on my list -- and he might not be through. Lucas won the last PGA Tour event of the year -- when few of the world's top 50 players were […]
