There’s no doubt in my mind a staffer on the Michigan football team spied on opponents.

I believe Head Coach Jim Harbaugh knew what was going on.

That’s cheating.

But I believe it’s a common practice, one the NCAA traditionally has ignored. You think the NCAA knows about the $100 handshakes with players and recruits most big-time school boosters hand out all the time? Sure it does, but the NCAA folks have kept their heads buried in the sand.

As long as schools aren’t brazen with their violations, life moves on with packed stadiums, huge TV audiences, and most schools’ pockets stuffed with money.

So why does the NCAA seem determined to punish Harbaugh? Well, to start with he’s not the most pleasant guy to be around. He rubs most people the wrong way. I do believe this is about Harbaugh and not the University.

And in the NCAA tradition, its investigators take years to decide where to have lunch.
