This is my annual pep talk to sports fans not to go into a summertime funk.  My first suggestion is to give sports you’ve previously ignored a try.


Baseball is certainly worth a try. New rules have picked up the pace and made the game more enjoyable.


It’s a major time for golf with the U.S. and British Opens, the PGA Tour playoffs, and the Ryder Cup.


NASCAR has regained some of its lost fans with a flock of young, colorful drivers.


And football isn’t totally on the shelf. Preseason training camps open in both the NFL  and college.


And there’s no better time of the year for being a participant yourself whether its golf, tennis, softball, fishing, swimming, water skiing, or simply boating.


Or even reading preseason football magazines.
